The previously announced Tropico 7 is now also coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, and we won’t have to wait for it either.
Announced a few months ago with a release date of January 28th, 2027 on other consoles and PC, the game will now also release on the Nintendo Switch 2 on this date. It’s a global simultaneous launch on all platforms. El Presidente would be proud. On the Switch 2 the game is called Tropico 7 – Special Edition but elsewhere it’s just Tropico 7.
The Switch 2 version of the game will also support mouse controls with the Joy-Con 2, and there’s GameChat support as well.
Tropico 7 expands the series signature formula with new ways for El Presidente to shape both the island and its politics. The revamped Council brings faction leaders directly into the halls of power where they can be negotiated with, manipulated, or El Prez’s favorite – completely ignored. The addition of Terraforming gives players greater control over the landscape, from raising land and redirecting rivers to creating new parks and new islands. Customize your island and make use of synergy effects to create the happiest environment and achieve new heights of citizen satisfaction. You can even customize the appearance of El Prez and your palace with new and creative options at no cost to real-world taxpayers.
We reviewed Tropico 6 for the Switch back in 2020, and the poor old thing was struggling with it. With the Switch 2’s power bump, things should hopefully turn out a lot better.
