Sanctuary falls when Diablo 5 hits in 2029, but there's plenty for Diablo 4 in the meantime, including a Switch 2 release next week.

The BlizzCon 2026 Opening Ceremony continued with a look at what's next for the Diablo series. The franchise is celebrating its 30th anniversary, which means there are grand plans for the near future. That includes Diablo 4's Season of Hell, which is set to launch this Tuesday and officially usher in Diablo's 30th anniversary year. But Blizzard is also looking ahead to the future, as the publisher has officially unveiled Diablo 5.

There are few details on Diablo 5, other than Diablo has won. The heroes have failed and Sanctuary has fallen. This game will test players as they attempt to reclaim the world from the demonic forces of Hell, who have already taken it over.

As part of Diablo 4's Season of Hell, players can expect the return of Deckard Cain, who will help guide them into some of Diablo's greatest battles. Many returning fiends from the series' history are set to appear, including the Prime Evils and Diablo himself. Nintendo Switch 2 owners can join the fun starting early next week, as Diablo 4: Age of Hatred Collection is set to release on Nintendo's handheld hybrid on Tuesday, September 15, just in time for the Season of Hell.

Plans for the Diablo series go beyond video games. A Diablo animated series was also revealed earlier in the day. There are no details on this series, other than it will eventually air on Netflix.
