GameStop holds midnight release for Ocarina of Time

Stay warm and safe, Legend of Zelda midnight shoppers.

Two weeks ahead of the launch of one of gaming’s most anticipated (and delayed) titles in Grand Theft Auto 6, the remake for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo Switch 2 is about to launch. For fans still looking to grab a physical copy, GameStop has you covered, especially for midnight releases nationwide.

Ocarina of Time for Switch 2 is a remake of the original 1998 Nintendo 64 title. OoT is not only one of the highest rated/ranked video games of all-time (Number 15 on our list of the best 100 games), but the remake was revealed this past summer, also timely for celebrating the 40-year anniversary of the Legend of Zelda franchise. The OoT remake joins games including the Switch 2 port of Metaphor: Refantazio (via Polygon) and Aspyr Media’s Shrek 2 Remastered for game releases that may ensure GTA 6 doesn’t completely hog up the November video game spotlight.

I just also found this myself as I was writing this article. As confirmed by Nintendo Everything, searching up the game on Google will treat you to the iconic Master Sword at the bottom right corner of the screen. A special animation will pop up after clicking the sword and the search results will take you to how Google search looked like back in 1998 when the original Ocarina of Time launched on the N64.

Back to Ocarina and GameStop, the gaming retail giant holding the game’s midnight release may bring back memories for those who’ve been to at least one gaming midnight release, be it at GameStop or elsewhere. Gaming midnight releases for high profile video games used to be so popular back in the day, but has significantly fallen out of style in recent years. It’s arguably due to the rise of digital distribution and online-related services. Check out The Act Man’s 2024 video looking back at the rise and fall of gaming midnight releases.
