Santa Monica Studio has announced that God of War Laufey has been delayed from February 16 to May 20, 2027, pushing the upcoming PlayStation 5 action-adventure game back by roughly three months. The developer confirmed the revised release date in a statement, explaining that the additional development time will be spent putting the finishing touches on the game.
First revealed in June 2026, God of War Laufey shifts the focus from Kratos to his wife, Faye, who also serves as Atreus’ mother. The story takes place after her death, following Faye as she awakens in the Everywhen, an afterlife inhabited by gods from different mythologies. Her efforts to protect Kratos and Atreus form the basis of the narrative.

The game features action-focused combat built around Faye’s sword, bow, and magical abilities. Players can also customize her equipment, including armor and weapons, to accommodate different combat approaches. It marks a change for the series by placing Faye in the lead role rather than Kratos.
Regarding the delay, Santa Monica Studio thanked fans for their response to the initial announcement and explained that the team wants additional time to finish development. The studio did not identify any specific development issues behind the decision but confirmed that further updates will be shared.
