Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake & Switch 2 Both Get Release Dates

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake finally has its release date, and it's launching shortly after a brand-new Nintendo Switch 2 bearing imagery from the series.

Throughout 2026, the existence of a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake was one of the worst kept secrets in the industry, having leaked long before Nintendo officially revealed its existence, via a brief teaser trailer during a Nintendo Direct. All that was shown was a brief clip of a sleeping Link, followed by a 2026 release window.

Nintendo revealed new information about The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake during the 40th anniversary Direct for the franchise. It was here that it was confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake will launch exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026.

Fans quickly noticed that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is beating Grand Theft Auto 6 to the market by a few weeks, as that game is launching on November 19. While fans have been robbed of their Barbenheimer moment, this release gap at least gives Nintendo fans a few weeks to complete the Hero of Time's quest, before they suit up and go for a ride in Vice City.

The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Remake Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Launches October

Nintendo also revealed that there will be a dedicated Switch 2 system based on The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, which will launch on October 29, 2026. This system is called the Nintendo Switch 2 - The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition, and it comes with a golden Triforce pattern on the dock, and light blue artwork on the Joy-Con 2s. Notably, it doesn't appear to come with a copy of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake.

Those who want more officially branded Link content can also purchase The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Pro Controllers and Carry Case & Screen Protectors. Those able to visit the Nintendo Store in New York or San Francisco can also purchase a stand for the controller.

Nintendo is all-in on The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake as its big 2026 holiday season game, or at least that's how it seems right now. There's a Nintendo Direct happening on September 9, where rumors are claiming that the Hero of Time won't be carrying the Switch 2's holiday season on his own.
