What the report says
Developer 4A Games and publisher Plaion made an appearance during today's State of Play broadcast, revealing the release date of METRO 2039. We already knew the game would be out in February 2027, but now we know the actual day: Thursday, February 4.That smartly puts the game ahead of every big game slated that month, which is one of the most loaded in recent gaming history, with Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis due on Friday, February 12, God of War Laufey slated for Tuesday, February 16, Persona 4 Revival pinned for Thursday, February 18, and Fable coming on Tuesday, February 23.
Still, there are two big triple-A premium games launching even sooner than METRO 2039 next year: RGG Studio's Stranger Than Heaven, out on Friday, January 15, and FireSprite's Until Dawn 2, which was just confirmed for Thursday, January 28.Anyway, 4A Games brought brand new gameplay footage of METRO 2039 captured on a PlayStation 5 Pro console. In fact, they confirmed that the PS5 Pro version supports 4K resolution and 60 frames per second with ray tracing. The same actually also applies to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, according to the press release. Perhaps that means the PS5 Pro will run the game more comfortably, or maybe there are other graphics enhancements that are yet to be revealed.
Anyway, the game understandably received the 'Best Visuals' award at gamescom, once again showcasing the studio's technical prowess.I recently checked out a presentation of the game and spoke with 4A's Game Director Andriy Shevchenko and Executive Producer Jon Bloch in an exclusive interview for Wccftech, in which the two developers discussed the challenge of building a triple-A game in the middle of a war (most of the studio is still located in Ukraine) and how it takes elements from all previous entries, from 2033 to Last Light and Exodus, to create an entirely new experience.About the author: With over two decades of experience in gaming journalism, Alessio Palumbo has led the gaming vertical at Wccftech since August 2015.
